World of Warcraft: BlizzCast Ep 2 with Chris Metzen

March 5th, 2008

Blizzard released another BlizzCast a few days back. This Podcast is about 50 minutes long this time featuring Chris Metzen, Vice President of Creative Development and the face behind the lore of the Blizzard franchises. I honestly enjoyed this BlizzCast more than the last one.

I mainly know Mr. Metzen for his artwork in the Blizzard manuals since Warcraft II. I have to say that Chris Metzen was my favorite artist, Samwise is my current favorite, mainly for his excellent detail and unique cartoon style, his artwork looks like he just put them together on the spot as the lines are always straight and perfect.

I was actually disappointed that Chris Metzen’s artwork was featured in the World of Warcraft manual and actually thought that he left Blizzard till I found out he’s been a busy man at Blizzard besides just drawing. Who knew he was the guy making up the lore for all the Blizzard games…

Anyways, this BlizzCast episode is mainly about lore and back story of the  Blizzard franchises like Diablo and StarCraft. So if you’re into that kind of stuff, then you should check out the this Podcast.

This BlizzCast also touches about the itemization, new Battlegroup maps that will feature siege weapons, future buff of daggers for rogues, PvE to PvP transition in the upcoming expansion, and much others.

For those interested, check out Chris Metzen’s galleryalong with other Blizzard artists like Samwise the Panda. Looking forward to StarCraft II.

World of Warcraft: PTR 2.4 Fishing Daily Goodies

February 28th, 2008

World of Raids posted a small segment on the new Fishing Daily currently available on the PTR server.

This post interested me mainly because I actually have a main with nearly maxed Fishing Skill…yea I know, what a waste of time. But if you’re like me, Patch 2.4 will be a good excuse to blow off the dust on the fishing rod as there are new rare reward items availabe from completing the daily in the form of the Bag of Fishing Treasures, much like the daily reward from the Cooking daily.

A few of the reward items that can be obtained from the fishing daily includes:

Fishing Daily Update:

World of Warcraft: Inside World of Warcraft - Ep1

February 27th, 2008

Ran in this video while browsing on Youtube. The light hearted video, Inside World of Warcraft, is made by the guys at Machinima.

I really enjoyed the class suggestion segment of the video. This episode also mentions Tales of the Past 3, which is one heck of a long movie. The movie is about 90 minutes long and weights at 2.3 GB!! I’ll eventually watch it someday but the huge download is throwing me off. You can check out Tales of the Past 3 with the provided link if you’re interested.

World of Warcraft: PTR 2.4 Warlock Life Tap Nerf

February 23rd, 2008

This will be a shameless post about the Warlock Life Tap nerf currently on the PTR, since I have a Warlock, haha.

Currently on the PTR server, Warlock’s Life Tap has been changed to % base instead of a fixed amount.

Life Tap now converts 26% of maximum health into 26% maximum mana. This means that if I Life Tap, I’m about 1/4 closer to dying and getting back a disproportional amount of mana, since Warlocks receive more and more stamina as the gear gets better.

Now, consider the fact that Warlocks generally do not have a lot of mana due to lack of intelligent, no smart being would ever work with demons and the demonic forces, right? Additionally, Warlock itemization and talent supports stamina, not intellect.

This nerf is obviously a PvP balance, especially for 2v2, but I think it’s too much as Warlocks run out of mana quite fast. If Blizzard is truly going with this route, I hope they will lower the percentage, as the current PTR 26% is too much. Oh, did I mention mana potions are not usable in Arena while Mages, Hunters (Aspect of the Viper), and Druids have ways to get mana back in from of mana gems and spells???

This change will also affect PvE as Warlocks will require a lot more healing now because Warlocks will run out of mana after a few Shadowbolts, about 3-4 Shadowbolts for those that like stats. This will effective lower Warlock DPS since this will tax the healers. Plus, mana potions will only do so much when you don’t have much mana regeneration or any other way to get mana besides getting Dark Pact. Mages and Hunters have options and non-talent skills to help with mana regeneration.

I’ll give Blizzard more time to test out the mechanics in PTR and I hope they play around with the numbers for Warlock’s Life Tap. Our Mana Drain is already getting nerf in 2.4, heck, pretty much every patch Warlocks get some nerf, some are needed for some aspect of the game, especially 1v1.

On the side note, Elemental Shamans are getting a nerf in PTR as well. Nature’s Swiftness and Elemental Mastery now share a 10 second cooldown. I actually want to see some better Warrior re-balance as there’s not really any Warriors using 41 talent skills, besides Protection Warriors.

Note: If you want to read more about this, there’s post about Warlocks “crying” about the Life Tap change which is quite informative. Post found here.

World of Warcraft: Gold Tip for Enchanters

February 16th, 2008

I should really organize all these gold making tips. Another time I guess.

Anyways, here’s a quick little tip for those Enchanters out there to make some quick gold.

When your side has control of Halaa in Nagrand, you can buy The Sharp Cookie for about 2 gold and 21 silver from Coreiel, the Blade Merchant. You can then disenchant these for a excellent chance of getting multiple Greater Planar Essences. The gold profit margin on this can be huge.

Of course, these are on limited supply and restocks about every 20 minutes so get them quick.

World of Warcraft: Patch 2.4 Gold Making Tip

February 15th, 2008

This is a time sensitive gold making tip for Enchanters or investors. If you look at the PTR Patch Notes 2.4, you might or might not notice that Blizzard is adding an Enchanting recipe in Patch 2.4 that will allow you to shatter a Void Crystal into two Large Prismatic Shards.

This is a good chance to make some extra gold, or a lot of gold if you’re willing to invest, depending on your server. On my server, Void Crystals are almost the same price as Large Prismatic Shards now due new enchants from the previous patch, which means I can double my gold investment if the recipe goes through to live servers.

I’m sure Blizzard will add in a cooldown timer on this transformation recipe or/and even make it a rare drop. Either way, you will still able to make a gold profit when Void Crystal prices adjusts itself to reflect the economy.

Then again, with so much Large Prismatic Shards on the market, the price for Large Prismatic Shards could drop a lot…so this will likely be a short term idea.
