World of Warcraft: Blizzard Getting More Tough on AFKers
January 16th, 2008 | by Shintar |In an effort to discourage players from AFKing in Battlegrounds, Blizzard is putting a tougher stand on AFKers as warnings and penalties will now be issued to repeated offenders. Blizzard is going as far as suspending frequent AFKers and removing Honor points and Honor rewards for not participating in Battleground games. In addition, Blizzard reported that they are immediately taking action against thousands of accounts. I’m sure you need to AFK a bunch of time for Blizzard to even give you your first warning. You can read about the whole post here.
I’m glad Blizzard is taking action on the AFKing problem, but I know everyone does it once in awhile. That’s just the way it is. I think the bigger issue that is plaguing the Battlegrounds is PUGs, or Pick Up Groups, being place against more organized Pre-made groups. Blizzard said that they added a much more fair matching system but I think there are flaws or limitations to the system as PUGs are commonly pit up against Pre-mades all the time.
Why is it such a bigger problem, in my opinion? Most of the time, the PUG will usually give up and lose the will to even put up a fight. Trust me, it’s really hard to win when 30% of the players are not even trying. Of course, there are rare games where PUGs will win but those are usually because the Pre-made is actually a PUG of same server players.
Personally, I would take a few AFKers than be place against an organized Pre-made because now I have to wait about 10 minutes again for another game and it’s sucks even more when you get another Pre-made…again and again.
